Revised Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery

Introduction

Over the years, and particularly in the last two decades, the profession of nursing in India and the social background of those involved in it have undergone tremendous changes. Such changes appear to be radical when considered against the background of a traditional social organization which demarcated occupations.

History

Late founder Kamlatai Hospet and co-founder Late Venutai Nene established Sitabuldi Maternity Home in 1921. While performing deliveries of pregnant women they faced insufficient trained nurses for help. So both of them decided to start “Dai Prashikshan Kendra” so that the needy womens in the society can be trained as nurses. In this way the nursing school has established in 1927. Later the nursing school has been registered under the Indian Nursing Council (INC) Delhi, Maharashtra Nursing Council (MNC), Mumbai and Maharashtra State Board Nursing and Paramedical Education(MSBNPE) Mumbai. Through the process the training centre got names like Elementary Nursing & Midwifery, Dai Training, Family Planning, Auxilliary Nursing Midwifery (ANM), Multipurpose Health Worker (MPHW) and now Revised Auxilliary Nursing Midwifery (RANM) of 2 years course.
