Matru Sewa Sangh Sutika Gruha - Wardha

The Wardha Branch was inaugurated on 15 February 1937 under the presidency of Shri Kakasaheb Paranjape. Initially, it seemed a difficult task to open a second branch in Wardha but Kamlatai’s optimism triumphed over all kinds of adversities. Kamlatai with the help of Mrs. Kawade and Mrs. Durgatai Agashe successfully established a branch there. The Maternity home was opened in a house with a rent of Rs. 16 per month. The executive committee approved one year’s salary of a nurse, while Dr. Shri. G. Kamble (MBBS) and Dr. Kamlatai Narudkar promised to lend the medical help, similarly, Dr. Shantabai Bapat (MBBS) worked without any remuneration for a whole year. Later, Dr. Mrs. Vanitabai Chorghade promised to work for the branch without any remuneration, this noble act solved the biggest hurdle. In the first 16 months the branch witnessed 155 deliveries of babies. The branch started receiving small donations from some people and an appeal for help was also made to the district council and Municipal Committee.
Shri Jamnalal Bajaj promised to help the Wardha branch. Janakidevi Bajaj donated 10 beds and 10 pillows and other ladies donated plates, and other necessary utensils and weighing scale etc. with the collection of these things the Maternity Home started functioning smoothly. Government officials visited the branch every year. In the period between 1934-40 the financial position of the branch improved due to the monthly donation of Rs. 100 from Municipal committee, Rs. 50 from Zilla Council, Rs. 100 from Jamnalal Bajaj and Rs. 35 from Shri Potdar.
In the year 1940 there came a massive change in the Wardha Branch. Kamlatai sent Mrs. Krushnatai Bhave to Wardha from Nagpur.  Mrs. Krushnatai Bhave received help from Dr. Mrs. Shantabai and Dr. Manuj-Trivedi (MDVNA) D.C.H. (England) D.T.H.A.H (England). They used to visit the maternity home every day and offered their voluntary services without expecting any remuneration or fees. Day by day the fame of the maternity home spread. The branch desired to have its own building but due to the ongoing world war it was a distant and impossible prospect. But fortunately, Laxmanrao Atre (Lawyer, Wardha) he donated a plot worth Rs. 5000 in the memory of this mother Janakibai Atre. Janakidevi Bajaj  donated Rs. 10,000 to the branch, while Parvatibai Karanjkar promised to contribute Rs. 5000 for this noble cause. Gradually, the branch received more funds from other renowned and noble people.
In the year 1951 a new building was constructed for the branch. The branch owes all its success and progress to the efforts made by Mrs. Krushnatai Bhave. Later the branch, introduced new projects for the welfare of the people. Under the five year plan (sarkari panchvarshik yojana), the branch received grant from (kendriya Samajkalyan Mandal) Central Social Welfare Board, (Swasthavibhag) Health Department, and other government departments. In 1954 the branch introduced several projects such as Auxiliary Course, Condensed Course, Hostel, Outdoor Department, Family Planning etc.
A Mobile Medical Unit has been introduced since 2011 in collaboration with Rashtriya Gramin Arogya Vibhag. This unit has been serving the people in places like Karanja, Samudrapur, Hinganghat, Ashti, Selu. It also regularly conducts health check up free of cost for the villagers.
