Matru Sewa Sangh Sutika Gruha - Jabalpur

Jabalpur is the second largest city in central India. The executive committed desired to have a branch of MSS in this region, but the long distance between Nagpur and Jabalpur made them rethink about it. In January 1941 Kamlatai Hospet visited Jabalpur city to make a survey of the situation there. On 9 February 1941, she held a meeting of the executive committee and in it was decided to open a new branch of MSS in Jabalpur. Accordingly a room was rented at Rs. 30 monthly and Mrs. Vimlabai Barve left for Jabalpur with all the necessary things. At the request of Mrs. Vimlabai Barve and Mrs. Indirabai Ranade, the Jabalpur branch was born. It was inaugurated at the hands of Mr. Chattarsingh in February 1941. On this occasion Dr. Sarvate gave a speech on the need of establishing maternity homes. The Jabalpur branch is indebted to the help received from the then Health officer Dr. Karandikar, Prof. Ranade and Shri Rambhau Karambedkar. Since the branch didn’t have a doctor of its own, Dr. Pradhan, Dr. Sarbate, Dr. Kamdin Dr. MacSerena and Dr. Shinde, lent all medical help and support. The branch did not have a building of its own.
Mrs. Prabhavati Jakatdar, who was in the cabinet of the Madhya Pradesh government was at the helm of the Jabalpur branch. Later, the branch bought a new land and constructed its own building, which was inaugurated on 15/10/1978 at the hands of Padmashree Kamlatai Hospet. The branch has a provision of 70 beds and performs delivery of 2500 babies yearly. It also has 250 to 300 operations of family planning yearly. The branch has a good reputation of providing excellent treatment to the women during childbirth.
